Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme

How Windsor Alumni can support us!

Students taking part in the Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award
Here at Windsor we have successfully been running the Duke of Edinburgh Award for many years and I’m sure some of you will have taken part in it when Ms Baker was in charge.  It is now led by Richard Lowe, himself a former student at Windsor, who is now a member of our staff.
We offer the award at Bronze, Silver and Gold level.  The award boosts self confidence and belief, develops resilience, independence and a sense of adventure and encourages young people to give back to their community.
Participants have to plan and take part in a residential expedition somewhere in the UK, learning how to thrive in the outdoors.  The experience last from overnight for Bronze to four nights under canvas for the Gold.  Participants also have to take part in a sport to improve fitness and health and improve a skill which could range from a creative or performance based skill to a practical or technological skill.
The final part of the award is the requirement for participation in volunteering within the community.  Our young people tell us they gain a great deal of personal satisfaction from making a difference in this way, enjoy the challenge of working in a different environment and value the friendships they make.
If you feel you can offer volunteering opportunities within the local community for us, please send a message through this network in the first instance to Lynne Bytheway and we will explore it further with you.
